6 Reasons to Upgrade to BT Home Hub 3 (from earlier
There were some good reasons to upgrade earlier BT Home Hubs to Home Hub 3.0 (but not to downgrade from 4
This list was maily to give to neighbours as reasons to updgrade whom you are trying to help get rid of
their Home Hub 1, 1.5 or 2 . Since BT no loger offer Home Hub 3, it would have to be sourced 2nd hand off ebay and
so is now not so obvious an upgrade, and there's only one main reason left now!
1) No strong Pulsed Microwaves from DECT cordless phone base station radiating
This is the main reason: If you have a BT Home Hub 1.0,
1.5 or 2.0 (see this guide to identify) you are
needlessly irradiating yourself, family (and close neighbours!) to constant strong Pulsing Microwaves
from its built-in digital cordless phone (DECT) base station which can't be turned off; thankfully, the
Home Hub 3.0 does NOT have this function.
Even though you may never use Broadband Talk (BT's cordless internet 'Hub Phone' facility, apparently
very few people use it, as it's said to be not that reliable) or if you don't even have a BT cordless
handset at all, still that DECT Base Station is constantly radiating powerful pulsed microwaves 24/7, and
at a level which a Daily Mail article points out: "New research shows the base
stations of some cordless [DECT] phones emit twice as much radiation as a mobile phone mast"... and
that's in your own home! (for article see: http://tinyurl.com/dailymail-dect-fears )
Of course, like all wireless routers, it still has WiFi Pulsing Microwaves, but at least you
can choose to turn OFF the WiFi and use network cables instead (the DECT base station
function really CANNOT be turned off on these earlier Home Hubs, even when 'Telephony' function is
This benefit applies to ANY OTHER router you may wish to replace your Home Hub 1.0, 1.5 or 2.0
with - some find this hard to believe, but it makes absolutely no difference to BT which router you use to
connect to their internet with.
